'We knocked out best side in Prem' - McCarthy

Blackburn hero Benni McCarthy claimed that his side had knocked out arguably the best side in England after beating Arsenal 1-0 in their FA Cup fifth round replay.

McCarthy clambered off the substitutes' bench to fire an 87th minute wonder-goal past Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and book Blackburn's place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

He told Sky Sports: 'When you've get your chance you've got to be ready. You've got fresh legs and you can produce a little bit of magic like that.

'I'm pleased because we've knocked out probably the best team in the Premiership.

'The gaffer said he would be giving me a rest for Portsmouth (in the Barclays Premiership last Sunday) but I thought I might be back against Arsenal.

'I have played a lot of games and I started to feel myself getting really tired, such is the pace of the Premier League.'

Rovers boss Mark Hughes, whose side now face Manchester City in the quarter-finals, was delighted with the result and hailed the South African striker for his match-winning intervention.

'I think the goal deserved to win any game and I can't wait to see it again,' he told Sky Sports.

'He brings world-class quality and he's shown that all through the season. What a good decision from the manager to bring him on as an impact player.'

Hughes was also confident of progressing to the last four of the competition and is hopeful of getting the better of City counterpart Stuart Pearce.

'Tonight, both sides cancelled each other out and there weren't many chances.

'But we've got a pretty good record against Manchester City and we'll be looking forward to that now and hoping to do well.'
