Mowbray warns Premiership clubs off Kamara

Tony Mowbray has told Premiership clubs it would take 'ridiculous money' for West Brom to consider selling top goalscorer Diomansy Kamara or any of their leading players in the summer.

Kamara, who scored his 21st goal of the season at Leicester on Saturday, has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough who meet Albion at the Hawthorns in an FA Cup fifth-round replay tomorrow.

Mowbray admits he would be surprised if Boro were not interested in the Senegal international given his form during the campaign and in the 2-2 draw at the Riverside Stadium 10 days ago.

But he has made it clear he wants Kamara, who has more than three years left of his contract, to play a leading role if Albion regain their top-flight status.

He said: 'We are aware of speculation surrounding `Joey` but I work with him every day and he is a great lad and very focused.

'He is desperate to win games for us. You can sense that. You can see his joy when we win. I've no fears about him being distracted by speculation.

'I'd be surprised if Middlesbrough weren't interested. I am delighted when people are connected to our footballers because it shows they are doing something right.

'But we have been down this road many times. We had the same issues in the summer - and Kamara is still here scoring wonderful goals for us.

'I anticipate that being the case next year in the Premier League hopefully.'

Mowbray added: 'Will Kamara be here next year? I have always said everybody has a price and if someone wants to offer ridiculous money for any of our players, any of them, it will be considered.

'But I would suggest, depending on how we are, hopefully the offer will be turned down. It's no good having money in the bank and no good players out on the pitch.'
