Villa's Berger pondering MLS move in the summer

Aston Villa midfielder Patrick Berger has revealed that he is mulling over a move to the MLS when his contract expires in the summer.

The 33-year-old former Czech Republic international has healed a rift with Villa boss Martin O'Neill that saw him left out of the squad earlier in the season, but has yet to seal a new deal with the club and has been linked with a move to the American league.

'There is a possibility of me going to America; I know there is an interest but I can't say anything at the moment because nothing is finalised,' he said.

'My deal at Villa is up in the summer and I just need to be fit and available every weekend for the manager and then we'll see what happens.'

'I still have my deal here and I'm prepared to help Villa finish as high as we can in the table, I will then see what the manager has on the table at the end of the season.

'Then I will sit down with the family and do what's best for them and make my decision.'

Berger joined the club in 2005, but has been cursed by injury since his arrival.

Earlier in the season he had a spell on loan with Stoke City, before returning to Villa Park and putting in some good performances coming off the bench.

Berger's uncertainty over his future, as well as his free-agent status, will be of interest to MLS clubs and the player himself may favour a lucrative move to America over a spell on the sidelines at Villa.
