Romanov has no plans to walk out on Hearts

Vladimir Romanov has confirmed his intention to stay at Hearts on a long-term basis.

The majority shareholder, addressing a group of schoolchildren in Edinburgh, insisted his project at Tynecastle is one with a long-term future.

Romanov told the 11-year-olds: 'I hope that in five or six years you will be part of my plans at Hearts. I am waiting for you to grow up so we get the best Scottish talent at Tynecastle. That's what we're looking for.'

According the official Hearts website, Romanov also offered an insight into the day-to-day strain of running the club.

The decision to omit Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon from the Hearts first team recently sparked heated debate, as did the reported claims in which Romanov allegedly stated there was corruption in the Scottish game.

'There really is a lot to do. You are worried for everybody, making sure everything is all right,' said Romanov yesterday.

'You have to take responsibility but when there is success, then it is the team's success. When there are problems, then they are your problems.'

Hearts are considering applying for entry to next season's Intertoto Cup, if they miss out on an automatic place in Europe.

But Romanov believes a second-place finish is still on the cards, even though Rangers, currently occupying that position, have a seven-point advantage over Hearts.

'This season we're fighting as hard as we can for second place,' Romanov added. 'We will try to do our best with that and then next season we will try to do even better.'
