Jan Schlaudraff, one of German football's brightest prospects, was fortunate to escape uninjured when a Porsche being driven by his Alemania Aachen team-mate, Marius Ebbers, crashed on the German autobahn outside of Aachen on Sunday morning.
According to German website www.Sport1.de a police report into the accident found that the incident was caused by aquaplaning at high speed. It is also reported that both players were intoxicated beyond the legal limit (0.5 mg/ml in Germany).
The 23-year-old Schlaudraff, who has agreed a three-year deal with Bayern Munich and will move for a fee of £700,000 at the end of the season, will be allowed to play on Sunday when Aachen face Schlaudraff's future club; Ebbers will not feature.
Both players have been hit by substantial, though undisclosed fines.
