Eredivisie: PSV look to regain composure

Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven will be looking to return to winning ways at the Phillips Stadion on Saturday when they host third-placed AZ Alkmaar.

PSV will be eager not to let closest pursuers Ajax make further inroads into their eight-point lead although the Amsterdammers face a tough match with arch-rivals Feyenoord on Sunday.

Ronald Koeman's PSV suffered their first league defeat since August at the hands of Roda JC last weekend but will be spurred on by a 100% home record in Eredivisie this season which has seen them score 40 times and concede just five.

But they will have their work cut out against an AZ side which has won eight games on their travels this term - more than any other in the top flight.

Louis van Gaal's team, who added Nourdin Boukhari to their squad this week, have found the net 11 times in their last three games - including last week's 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam - and will be looking to close the gap on the champions to six points.

PSV's slip-up gives more importance still to the other big match of the weekend as Ajax duel with Feyenoord in the ``Klassieker''.

Leonardo Santiago's injury-time strike kept Henk ten Cate's men's title dreams alive in the 3-2 win at FC Groningen.

Now Ajax will hope the return of `the pitbull' Edgar Davids - a former Champions League winner at the club in 1995 - will add further bite to their midfield.

Erwin Koeman's Feyenoord saw off bottom side RKC Waalwijk with a 3-1 win last weekend but have lost three of their last four Eredivisie games away from the De Kuip Stadion.

Saturday should see FC Twente travel to Excelsior in confident mood having won three of their last four Eredivisie games, including last week's 3-1 win over ADO Den Haag.

Roda JC will hope for a repeat of the form which saw shock PSV last weekend when they go head-to-head with Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday.

The Kerkrade club are unbeaten in their last four whereas Sparta are reeling from last Saturday's 3-0 humbling by AZ.

NEC will have the chance to leapfrog mid-table rivals Vitesse when the sides meet the same day and both sides are three games without defeat.

Relegation rivals Heracles Almelo and Willem II do battle in a six-pointer on Saturday with just one point separating the two sides.

Also on Saturday, NAC Breda will hope to boost their European ambitions with a victory over bottom side RKC Waalwijk, who are seven games without a victory.

And ADO Den Haag will hope to end a run of three defeats in-a-row when they meet mid-table FC Utrecht on Sunday.
