PSV are top with 56 points from 21 matches ahead of AZ Alkmaar, who beat ADO Den Haag 3-1 on Friday. Ajax Amsterdam are third on 42 points before they host Utrecht on Sunday.

PSV's Timmy Simons scored their first penalty after 13 minutes following a professional foul by Heerenveen defender Calvin Jong-A-Pin, who was sent off.

Afonso Alves equalised seven minutes later with his 19th goal of the season but seconds later Arouna Kone restored PSV's lead before Jefferson Farfan converted a second penalty in the 35th to seal the win.

Orlando Engelaar struck five minutes from time to earn Twente Enschede a 2-1 win at bottom club RKC Waalwijk that saw them move above Feyenoord into fourth with 41 points.

Feyenoord visit NAC Breda on Sunday.

Kennedy Bakircioglu opened the scoring for Twente after 12 minutes but midway through the first half Rick van den Bergh converted a penalty to level the scores.

Roda JC Kerkrade remain stuck in mid-table with 29 points after a 2-1 home win over strugglers Willem II Tilburg, who
