MOSCOW, Jan 20 (Reuters) - Lokomotiv Moscow have signed Ghana World Cup striker Asamoah Gyan on a four-year contract, the Russian premier league club said on Saturday.
Gyan joins the railway side from Italian Serie A club Udinese for a reported nine million euros ($11.66 million) fee, the fourth largest in Russian soccer history.
Lokomotiv, who finished third in the Russian league last year behind city rivals CSKA and Spartak, have beaten Spartak in their battle for the services of the 21-year-old forward.
Lokomotiv hope Gyan will be a timely addition in attack as Scotland striker Garry O'Connor is expected to leave the Moscow club for personal reasons during the transfer window.
Gyan, whose elder brother Baffour plays for premier league rivals Saturn Ramenskoye, helped Ghana reach the knockout round on their World Cup debut at last year's finals in Germany.
