Villarreal dumped out of the Cup by Valladolid

MADRID, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Second division leaders Valladolid caused the upset of the round in the King's Cup on Wednesday when they defeated Primera Liga side Villarreal 3-1 on aggregate.

Defender Javier Baraja drilled home from the penalty spot just before the half hour to earn the visitors a 1-0 win on the night that secured them a place in the quarter-finals.

Third division Rayo Vallecano came close to joining them in the last eight on the away goals rule but missed out after late strikes from Frederic Kanoute and Alejandro Alfaro earned Sevilla a 3-1 win at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

In-form Osasuna ended former coach Javier Aguirre's hopes of leading Atletico Madrid to success in the Cup with a 2-0 win at home that sent them through 3-1 on aggregate, both goals coming from skipper Patxi Punal.

Last season's finalists Real Zaragoza went through 3-1 on aggregate despite losing 1-0 at Malaga, while Deportivo Coruna overcame Real Mallorca 3-2 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw at the Riazor.

The performance of the night came from Bernd Schuster's Getafe who came from a goal down to crush Valencia 4-2 at the Mestalla and reach the quarters for the first time in their history.

Striker Daniel Guiza weighed in with a well-taken double to help his side beat Valencia. who are coached by former Getafe boss Quique Sanchez Flores and have won five straight games in the league.
