Libue 1: Marseille win 2,000th top flight game

PARIS, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Olympique Marseille moved into third in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win at Stade Rennes in their 2000th game in the top flight on Sunday.

France striker Djibril Cisse raced into the box unchallenged to open the scoring just before the hour.

Fellow forward Toifilou Maoulida doubled the advantage in added time, sealing a victory that put Marseille on 33 points from 20 games.

Champions Olympique Lyon, who lead the standings on 50 points, slumped to their second defeat of the season when they lost 2-0 at Toulouse on Saturday.

Second-placed Racing Lens are 14 points back after a 1-1 home draw with Lille in a northern derby, also on Saturday.

Rennes, the only other team to have beaten Lyon this season, undermined their chances when they had Cameroonian midfielder Stephane M'Bia sent off for a dangerous tackle on Samir Nasri shortly before halftime.

Monaco confirmed they were recovering from a disastrous start to the season with a 1-0 win at front-runners St Etienne earlier on Sunday.

Towering Czech forward Jan Koller headed home the winner from a Camel Meriem cross on 65 minutes to lift Monaco, who remain 15th, six points away from the drop zone.

St Etienne, who suffered their fourth defeat in succession counting their elimination from both domestic Cups, fall two spots to sixth, on 31 points from 20 games..
