Sampdoria signs American striker to youth squad
GENOA, Italy -- Sampdoria signed 18-year-old striker Gabriel Enzo Ferrari to its youth team, and he could become the first American to play in the Serie A since Alexi Lalas with Padova from 1994-96.
Ferrari joined the Italian team from the New York Red Bulls, Sampdoria spokesman Matteo Gamba said Friday. Details of his contract were not immediately available.
"He's got the necessary skills, eventually he'll get the opportunity," Gamba said. "He's already training with the senior squad."
