Bolton boss Allardyce resigned to losing Ben Haim

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted for the first time he is resigned to losing defender Tal Ben Haim.

The Israel international is out of contract in the summer and has made it clear he wants a new challenge.

Ben Haim has taken the eye of a number of clubs as he is able to play all across the back line - with Chelsea linked to the 24-year-old.

Allardyce told the club's website: 'He won't sign a contract. It is a great shame it has gone beyond that now.

'We'll just have to wait and see what will happen.

'I don't think he'll move this month. He is likely to see out his contract and he'll be off and away in the summer.

'As a player you can use the rules and regulations and you can't blame him for that.'

Allardyce expects Ben Haim to be professional in his remaining days at the Reebok Stadium.

'It is a difficult situation for both parties,' said the Bolton boss.

'But as long as Tal continues playing for us at the level he has set himself I'll be very happy.

'He is an ambitious lad and even though we have a vibrant ambition ourselves it seems there are clubs bigger than us who are keen on signing him.'
