Scottish Cup: Gretna march on, Deveronvale glory

Last year's surprise finalists Gretna powered into the last 16 of the Tennent's Scottish Cup and were joined by Highland League side Deveronvale.

Goals from David Graham, Eric Paarpalu and Colin McMenamin carried Gretna, who are closing in on a place in next season's Bank of Scotland Premier League, to a 3-0 win at First Division rivals Clyde.

Deveronvale were too strong for Third Division strugglers Elgin, who are at the foot of the league, but after leading 4-0 and 5-2 they were clinging on at the end.

Their 5-4 win came despite a hat-trick for Elgin striker Martin Johnston.

Deveronvale's goals came from captain Mark Chisholm, Ian Murray, Mark Smith, Mike McKenzie and Graeme Watt.

Dundee, cup winners in 1910, were held 1-1 at home by Queen of the South in an all-First Division clash.

Derek Lyle opened the scoring with a headed goal in the 38th minute at Dens Park, but Queen of the South equalised just before half-time through a superb Sean O'Connor strike.

St Johnstone were held to a goalless stalemate at home against Ayr in another tie which will require a replay.

Cowdenbeath and Brechin must also try again following a 1-1 draw.

Livingston overcame First Division mid-table rivals Hamilton 4-2 at New Douglas Park.

Highly-rated 16-year-old James McCarthy scored his first goal for Hamilton, but they were overwhelmed by the visitors for whom Steven Tweed, Joe Hamill and Graham Dorrans, who netted twice, were on target.

Defender John Robertson came back to haunt his old club with the only goal as Partick won 1-0 at Ross County. The former Ross player headed the winner after 15 minutes.
