Twellman opts out of national team camp
BOSTON -- New England Revolution striker Taylor Twellman declined an invitation to attend the U.S. national team camp next month because he's recovering from sports hernia surgery about a month ago.
In place of Twellman, interim national coach Bob Bradley has invited Kansas City striker Eddie Johnson to the camp, which begins Jan. 4 in Carson, Calif., national team spokesman Michael Kammarman said. The team is scheduled to play an exhibition game against Denmark on Jan. 20.
Revolution spokesman Brad Feldman said Twellman's choice does not mean he won't play with the national team after he's fully recovered.
The Revolution expect Twellman to be ready to play when the team opens its season on April 7, Feldman said. He said the national team will not compete in international tournaments until June and July.
