MADRID, Dec 21 (Reuters) - The father of Espanyol midfielder Jonatas has been released after being held hostage by kidnappers in Brazil for over a week, the Primera Liga club said on Thursday.
'This morning the police were able to release the player's father after discovering the place where he was being held and he is now with his family,' Espanyol said.
The kidnapping was the latest in a series that have affected the relatives of leading Brazilian players.
The sister of AC Milan striker Ricardo Oliveira was kidnapped in October and Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano's mother spent around two months as a hostage last year after being snatched in Campinas.
The mother of Real Madrid forward Robinho spent over 40 days in captivity in 2004 before the player moved to Spain.
