Hibs rebuff Charlton offer for midfield pair

Hibernian have rejected a £3million offer from Charlton for Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson.

The bid for the midfielders was received by the Easter Road club yesterday morning.

But Hibs say they are unwilling to sell the highly-rated duo, who are involved in a wage dispute with the Edinburgh club.

Brown, 21, and skipper Thomson, 22, signed new contracts in March but have been trying to renegotiate those deals after recently appointing new agent Willie McKay.

Both players were linked with a January move to Rangers and their Hibs futures were further thrown into doubt when Brown submitted a transfer request earlier this month.

But Hibs chairman Rod Petrie has confirmed Charlton are the only club to have made a firm offer for the duo.

He told the club's official website, www.hibernianfc.co.uk: 'I arrived at the office on Tuesday morning to see that an email had been received overnight from Andrew Mills, the general manager of Charlton Athletic - Andrew is a former players' agent.

'Andrew had called a number of weeks ago expressing interest in two of our players but made no offer at that time either over the phone or by letter.

'The email from Andrew contained an unsigned offer of £3million for the transfer of both Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson subject to certain conditions.

'I sent an email back to Charlton Athletic rejecting their offer at 9.17am yesterday morning.

'Despite the offer having been rejected, Charlton Athletic and their contacts chose to make the matter public for their own purposes.

'Contrary to all the media speculation in recent weeks, this is the only offer we have received for either player from any club.'
