'I knew Spurs would draw Feyenoord' - Jol

Martin Jol's hunch that Tottenham would draw Feyenoord in the UEFA Cup proved correct and Spurs' Dutchman believes the side from his homeland present a threat to the Londoners' progress.

But Spurs could be given an advantage if UEFA order the away leg to be played behind closed doors as punishment for crowd trouble involving Feyenoord fans.

Jol said: 'I predicted that we would get Feyenoord. It is not a bad draw for us, they are probably not as good as when they played Spurs in the final of the UEFA Cup in 1974, but it is still a big club who get crowds averaging 45-50,000.

'It will be difficult going over there because they are strong at home, but we've got the advantage of playing later at home.

'Feyenoord had to sell Dirk Kuyt to Liverpool, but they have still got bundles of talent.'

UEFA have appealed against their independent disciplinary tribunal's sentence of a suspended two-match stadium ban for Feyenoord after rioting fans caused their game at Nancy to be held up for 30 minutes.

UEFA communications director William Gaillard told PA Sport: 'In this case the prosecutor considers the sentence is not severe enough. The reasoning is that there have been so many previous incidents (involving Feyenoord) to just give them a suspended sentence.

'We are asking the disciplinary commission to reconsider and a more severe penalty, for example that could be for the sentence not to be suspended.'

The appeal will be heard early next month and the matches played in February. The winner will face Braga or Italian side Parma.

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder was a happy man after seeing his side paired with Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem.

However, the Magpies face what should be a much harder task if they progress, with Turkish side Fenerbahce or AZ Alkmaar of Holland awaiting them in the last 16.

Roeder said: 'It is a good draw - one of the first reasons would be because we have not got too far to travel.

'We could have drawn a team from Tel Aviv in Israel and you are on an aeroplane for five hours thinking of the return journey and the game the following weekend.'

Rangers are headed for Israel, having been paired with Hapoel Tel Aviv and their striker Dado Prso believes the Ibrox side are favourites go through to face either Bordeaux or Osasuna.

Prso said: 'I think we are the favourites and we will try to do our job.

'I am happy with the draw. We have already played against Maccabi and we know the football they play in Israel.'

Blackburn will play German side Bayer Leverkusen, with the winner facing Lens or Panathinaikos in the last 16.
