WASHINGTON -- D.C. United traded veteran defender Brandon Prideaux to the Colorado Rapids on Friday for two draft picks. United will receive the Rapids' third-round selections in 2007 and 2008.
"At the end of the season, Brandon requested a move closer to his home, and this move will accommodate his request," United technical director Dave Kasper said.
The 30-year-old Prideaux is from Washington state and played for the University of Washington. He spent five seasons with United, starting 106 games and logging nearly 10,000 minutes. He was bothered by a knee injury this season and played only nine games.
Prideaux has played on two MLS championship teams. He helped Kansas City win the 2000 title and did the same with United in 2004.
