FA lobbies FIFA over videos for divers

LONDON, Dec 13 (Reuters) - The FA is hoping to persuade world soccer's governing body FIFA to allow it to use video evidence to punish players retrospectively for diving.

'Basically we want FIFA to be more flexible on how video evidence can be used for disciplinary matters,' an FA spokesman said on Wednesday.

'We have only raised it in principle at the moment and we will ask again at the FIFA Board meeting in March.'

The FA already uses video evidence retrospectively for certain situations, such as in cases of wrongful dismissal or where a referee did not see a particular incident.

However, with high-profile cases of diving hitting the headlines on a weekly basis, the FA wants more power to bring the offenders to book.

'We already use video evidence more than every other country,' the FA spokesman said. 'We know that there is a need to protect the authority of the referee but also to protect the sense of fairness and justice.'
