FC Dallas assistant Morrow named coach

FRISCO, Texas -- FC Dallas assistant Steve Morrow was promoted to head coach of the MLS team on Monday. Morrow, an assistant the past two seasons, is the first former FC Dallas player to become head coach. He replaces Colin Clarke, whose contract wasn't renewed after FC Dallas lost in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. "I'm thrilled and honored to coach what I consider to be the leading organization in MLS," Morrow said. The 36-year-old Morrow began his career with Arsenal of the Premier League before coming to Dallas in 2002. He scored three goals in 41 regular-season games and one playoff goal for FC Dallas. Morrow was hired as an assistant in 2004 but resigned later that year for personal reasons. He returned last year. "He brings a great background which not only includes success with one of the top clubs in the world, but also firsthand understanding of what MLS is all about," general manager Michael Hitchcock said. "He's familiar with the team, the players, and I feel has the understanding and knowledge of what it will take to win championships."
