Round-up of action from Eastern Europe

BELGRADE, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Round up of the weekend soccer action in eastern Europe.

SERBIA - Champions Red Star Belgrade beat Borac Cacak 2-1 to head into the mid-season break 12 points clear of closest rivals Mladost Apatin, who drew 1-1 with Bezanija Belgrade.

Top scorer Dusan Djokic gave Red Star a 2-0 lead with two close range efforts before Zimbabwean striker Mike Tamwanjira scored a consolation for the visitors with a diving header.

A Sasa Drakulic penalty salvaged a point for Mladost after Zarko Lazetic had fired Bezanija ahead on the stroke of halftime.

Third-placed OFK Belgrade drew 1-1 at home with crisis-hit city rivals Partizan after Milos Bajalica cancelled out Darko Maletic's early opener for the visitors.

CROATIA - Front-runners Dinamo Zagreb and traditional rivals Hajduk Split won to stay level on points at the top and continue their two-horse title race.

Dinamo stayed ahead on goal difference with a game in hand after an Eduardo da Silva header and a superb shot by Luka Modric handed them a 2-1 home win over neighbours NK Zagreb.

Mario Carevic rounded of a flowing team move in the 31st minute to give Hajduk a 1-0 success at fifth-placed Varteks Varazdin.

Krunoslav Jurcic, the coach of 10th-placed Pula, resigned after his team's 0-0 draw with Cibalia Vinkovci, who remain one place below them in the relegation zone.

CZECH REPUBLIC - Slavia Prague went top with a 2-1 home win over 10-man Banik Ostrava and champions Slovan Liberec stayed a point behind them in second after a 2-0 victory against Budjejovice.

Sparta Prague, level on points with Liberec, can go top again when they visit Kladno later on Monday.

A dazzling solo effort by Stanislav Vlcek and a late header from 17-year-old Tomas Necid gave Slavia the win after Banik's Frantisek Rajtoral scored and Pavel Besta was sent off for a professional foul.

A clinical finish from Pavel Kostal and a Tomas Zapotocny penalty in the second half helped Liberec keep up the pressure in their bid to retain the title.

HUNGARY - Leaders MTK Budapest were held to a 0-0 draw at lowly REAC, allowing second-placed Zalaegerszeg to cut the deficit to three points with a 2-1 home defeat of FC Fehervar.

Lajos Nagy and Istvan Ferenczi scored as Zalaegrszeg came from behind to win after Illes Sitku had converted a 10th minute penalty for the visitors.

Third-placed champions Debrecen are five points off the pace after Zoltan Kiss and Ibrahim Sidibe scored either side of halftime to give them a 2-0 win at mid-table Pecs.

ROMANIA - Champions Steaua Bucharest beat Politehnica Timisoara 3-1 at home to stay second eight points behind leaders and bitter foes Dinamo Bucharest, who entertain city rivals National later on Monday.

Cyril Thereau, Ovidiu Petre and Valentin Badea were on target for Steaua to lift them two points clear of third-placed Rapid Bucharest, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by Pandurii Tigru Jiu.
