Manchester United extends lead to six points

LONDON -- Manchester United moved six points clear atop the English Premier League on Saturday, while Arsenal beat Tottenham 3-0 to maintain a seven-year unbeaten streak against its north London rival. United won 2-1 at Middlesbrough for its seventh league win away from home and improved to 41 points. Chelsea, which won't play this weekend because its scheduled opponent Newcastle played in the UEFA Cup on Thursday, has 35 points. Arsenal climbed to third with 25 points with its win. Emmanuel Adebayor opened the scoring and Gilberto Silva netted from two debated penalties in the first north London derby at Emirates Stadium. Craig Bellamy scored twice in Liverpool's 4-0 victory over Wigan -- its first away win of the season -- while, elsewhere, it was: Blackburn 2, Fulham 0; Portsmouth 2, Aston Villa 2; Reading 1, Bolton 0; and Sheffield United 2, Charlton 1. After the top two teams, only one point separates the next six sides. Portsmouth, Liverpool and Reading have 25 points and are behind Arsenal behind on goal difference. Aston Villa and Bolton are next with 24 points.

Italy
MILAN -- Italian league leader Inter Milan beat Siena 2-0 and matched a 97-year-old club record with its 11th consecutive win. Nicolas Burdisso put Inter ahead in the 11th minute and Hernan Crespo scored his sixth goal of the season in the 54th, three minutes after Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar saved a penalty kick. Inter has won seven straight in Serie A, two in the European Champions League and two in the Italian Cup. Inter also had an 11-game winning streak in 1909-10. Inter has 36 points, four ahead of second-place AS Roma which beat Atalanta 2-1 for its sixth straight league win. Francesco Totti scored two second-half penalty kicks following a 19th-minute goal by Atalanta forward Riccardo Zampagna. In Serie B, Napoli drew 1-1 with Frosinone and moved a point ahead of Juventus and Bologna atop the standings. Juventus drew 1-1 at Genoa on Friday and Bologna beat Verona 1-0. The Napoli match was suspended several times when fans threw flares onto the field.

Spain
MADRID -- Alvaro Maior scored in the 77th minute and Levante rallied to draw FC Barcelona 1-1, ending the Spanish league leader's three-game winning streak. Barcelona remained atop La Liga with 30 points, two ahead of Sevilla and four in front of Real Madrid. Sevilla will have a chance to go atop the table when it travels to play at Espanyol. Real Madrid hosts Athletic Bilbao. In other games, Recreativo Huelva beat Valencia 2-0 and Atletico Madrid won 1-0 at Real Betis.

Germany
BERLIN -- Miroslav Klose scored twice and Werder Bremen beat Hertha Berlin 3-1 to move to the top of the Bundesliga. Klose made it 2-1 with a header in the 32nd minute and then scored the winner with a low shot that Berlin goalkeeper Christian Fiedler got a hand to but couldn't stop. Bremen has played 15 games and has 30 points, one more than Schalke and two more than Stuttgart. Bayern Munich is fourth with 27 points. Moenchengladbach, which hasn't won in eight games, surprised Bayern with a 1-1 tie. American goalkeeper Kasey Keller stopped several late chances by the defending champions. Argentina defender Martin Demichelis headed in Bastian Schweinsteiger's 23rd-minute free kick. But Demichelis' loss of the ball in the 33rd minute led to Michael Delura scoring past Bayern goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. Hannover 96 continued its climb and made 10th place after Steve Cherundolo scored the 22nd-minute winner in its 1-0 win over Energie Cottbus. Hamburg's 2-1 loss to Bochum left the North German team with just one win -- the worst start in the club's Bundesliga history. In other games, it was: Borussia Dortmund 1, Wolfsburg 0; and Bielefeld 0, Leverkusen 0. On Friday, Mainz and Stuttgart played to a 0-0 tie.

France
PARIS -- Defending champion Lyon won 1-0 at Le Mans, getting a second-half header from Sylvain Wiltord for its fourth straight victory and maintaining a 14-point advantage atop the French first division. The victory was its 13th in 14 games and eighth in nine away from home, giving Lyon 43 points from 16 matches. Wiltord's scored after a free kick by Brazilian playmaker Juninho in the 57th minute. It was the first loss of the season at home for Le Mans, which saw its best chance punched away by Lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet after James Fanchone slipped a through ball to Brazilian striker Grafite. Lens kept pace, beating Bordeaux 3-0 at home to improve to 29 points. In other games, it was: Saint-Etienne 2, Lorient 0; Rennes 2, Nantes 0; Auxerre 0, Nice 0; Monaco 3, Valenciennes 0; and Sedan 1, Troyes 2.

Netherlands
AMSTERDAM -- PSV Eindhoven extended its lead atop the Dutch league, beating Vitesse in Arnhem 1-0 on an early goal from Ecuadorean striker Edison Mendez. Mendez blasted a left-footer past Vitesse goalkeeper Harald Wapenaar in the 22nd minute. PSV extended its league winning streak to nine games and climbed eight points ahead of Ajax. In other matches, it was NAC Breda 0, FC Twente 0; ADO The Hague 0, NEC Nijmegen 2, and Heracles Almelo 1, Roda JC Kerkrade 1. On Friday, it was RKC Waalwijk 2, Sparta Rotterdam 1.

GLASGOW -- Celtic substitute Maciej Zurawski scored to give the Scottish champion a 1-0 win over Aberdeen. Zurawski came on in the 67th minute and scored five minutes later, taking a cross from Lee Naylor to beat goalkeeper Jamie Langfield.
