Charlton keeper heads back to Denmark

Charlton goalkeeper Stephan Andersen will join Danish side Brondby in January.

The 25-year-old has found his first-team chances limited since his arrival from AB Copenhagen in a £721,000 deal in May 2004.

Andersen initially joined the Addicks as understudy to then number one Dean Kiely and made his debut against Manchester United at the end the following season, but failed to hold down a regular starting place.

A proposed loan move to Leeds fell through on transfer deadline day, but the Danish international is now set to return to the club at which he started his career.

Charlton head coach Les Reed said: 'I am sad to see Steph go but glad that he will be given an opportunity to play regular first-team football at a high level.

'It has been frustrating for Stephan as Scott Carson has been in outstanding form this season and there have therefore been limited opportunities for him to play in the first team.

'It's better for him and his own career development to take an opportunity like this and it also allows the club to move on with Scott and Thomas Myhre as our first-choice `keepers.'
