MOSCOW, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Zenit St Petersburg have signed Russia striker Pavel Pogrebnyak on a three-year contract, the Russian premier league side said on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old becomes the first major acquisition for the ambitious St Petersburg club and their Dutch coach Dick Advocaat two days after Zenit finished a disappointing fourth in their league campaign.
Zenit have also bought out the contract of Dutch midfielder Fernando Ricksen from Scottish Premier League side Rangers.
Ricksen, who joined Zenit in August on loan until the end of the season, also signed a three-year deal with the Russian club.
Backed by the almost limitless resources of Russian energy giant Gazprom, Zenit said they were looking to strengthen their squad in the off-season.
Pogrebnyak, a product of the Spartak Moscow youth system who spent last season at premier league rivals Tom Tomsk, made his international debut this year under Russia's Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, scoring twice in five matches.
