Tampines battle back to win Singapore Cup

SINGAPORE, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Tampines Rovers launched an amazing fightback to beat Thailand's Chonburi Province 3-2 and win the Singapore Cup final on Sunday.

Second half substitute Aliff Shafaein scored two crucial goals in the 84th minute and in the dying seconds of extra time to spoil Chonburi's bid to become the first foreign club to win Singapore's national cup competition.

Chonburi played the last 14 minutes with nine men after the sending off of midfielders Coulibaly Kafoumba and Adul Lahso.

The Thai side had looked set to make history when they went two goals ahead with 14 minutes remaining. Striker Pipob On-Mo broke the deadlock in the 74th minute and midfielder Pipob On-Mo added a second two minutes later.

But Tampines replied six minutes before the end when Shafaein found the net with his first touch of the game.

With Chonburi just seconds away from victory, midfielder Santi Chaiyaphuak levelled the scores on 90 minutes to force extra time and send the home crowd into a frenzy.

After a fruitless period of extra time and with the match set to go to penalties, Shafaein popped up in front of goal and slotted the ball home to seal victory for Tampines.
