LONDON, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Premier League strugglers Charlton Athletic are hoping to sign Costa Rica international Cristian Bolanos.
The winger, who played in the World Cup finals in Germany, impressed during a pre-season trial at the London club via a loan spell at Belgian side Germinal Beerschot, with whom Charlton signed a collaboration agreement last year.
Attempts to sign Bolanos, who plays for Costa Rican champions Deportivo Saprissa, were frustrated because he could not get a work permit, although new head coach Les Reed is hopeful a solution can be found.
'The situation is that he can't get a work permit but we're hoping that we will be able to do something with our partnership with Beerschot,' said Reed on the club's website.
'The problem was that he hadn't played enough international A games so if there's a period where we can loan him to a country that will give him a work permit, while he plays the international games he needs, then we would be able to eventually bring him in.
'But that's all under negotiation and there's a bit of chasing to be done.'
Reed took charge of bottom club Charlton after the sacking of Iain Dowie earlier this month.
