New knee injury for Villarreal striker Nihat
MADRID, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Villarreal's Turkish international forward Nihat Kahveci has suffered another knee injury that could put him out of action for the rest of the season, the club said on Wednesday.
Club delegate Jose Manuel Llaneza told reporters at the draw for the King's Cup that he had been informed that Nihat had suffered a serious injury to his knee during training.
'Right now I've been told that Nihat will be out for six months with a knee injury,' said Llaneza.
'It seems that this year we have been hit by this type of injury and we'll have to see if we now sign a new forward to replace him or if we try and carry on without one.'
Nihat, who joined Villarreal from Real Sociedad at the end of last season, tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee in February 2005 and was sidelined for the rest of the season.
He strained the ligaments in the same knee last month during Turkey's 5-0 win over Moldova in a Euro 2008 qualifier and was poised to return to action.
There has been an epidemic of knee injuries in the Primera Liga this season with Villarreal already losing centre-back Gonzalo Rodriguez and midfielder Roberto Pires because of torn cruciate ligaments.
Valencia midfielder Edu tore his cruciate ligament during his side's 3-0 defeat at Sevilla on Saturday.
