Hammers take Kiraly on 'emergency' loan

West Ham United have signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly on a two-week 'emergency' loan deal.

The Hungarian had fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park in recent weeks, but Hammers boss Alan Pardew has turned to the 30-year-old to give his squad more goalkeeping cover.

Kiraly will stay with the Hammers until December 3, after which the loan period could be extended.

Kiraly joined Palace in the summer of 2004 and made 97 appearances for the Eagles.

But after starting the season as first choice under new boss Peter Taylor, he has been relegated to the bench for recent matches, with youngster Scott Flinders preferred.

And Kiraly was pushed further down the pecking order on Thursday when Palace, who are struggling in the Championship, signed Iain Turner on a month's loan from Everton.

Kiraly will compete with Robert Green and Roy Carroll for a place in the West Ham starting line-up, and could be on the bench for the Hammers' fixture at Premiership champions Chelsea on Saturday.
