Blades sign Gerrard as cover for injured Kenny

Goalkeeper Paul Gerrard has signed a four-month contract with Sheffield United.

The 33-year-old played on loan for the Blades in 2003 and has now signed for the club until January.

'My contract was up at (Nottingham) Forest and they wanted to trim the squad and the wage bill,' Gerrard told his new club's official website.

'I had a couple of chats with Premiership and Championship clubs but nothing came of it so I trained on my own and went to the gym to keep myself in good shape before Neil Warnock gave me a ring.

'He wanted me to come down and train and it suited both me and the club and, in the end, I've signed until the January transfer window.'
