LISBON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Sporting moved into second place in the Portuguese Premier League with a 2-0 victory at promoted Aves on Saturday.
Champions Porto, who beat Beira Mar 3-0 on Friday, head the standings with a maximum 12 points followed by Sporting on nine.
Braga and Naval, with goalless draws at Estrela Amadora and Belenenses respectively, joined Pacos Ferreira in third place, all on seven points.
Sporting striker Alecsandro, scored his first goal for his new club after 15 minutes from an acute angle after a long pass by Joao Moutinho.
Substitute Tonel came off the bench after 82 minutes to notch Sporting's the second goal, a gift from Brazilian goalkeeper Paulo Musxser, who bungled what should have been a routine save.
