LISBON, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Brazil defender Luisao scored the only goal to give Benfica a 1-0 home win over Nacional Madeira in the Portuguese Premier League on Sunday.
The Lisbon team, despite missing several players including playmaker Rui Costa through suspension and injury, earned their first win of the league season with Luisao's cool finish at the far post from Simao Sabrosa's 29th-minute corner.
Benfica are in mid-table with three points from two matches.
Champions Porto, one of five teams on six points, were playing later on Sunday at Naval.
Sporting are on six points from three games after going down to a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Pacos Ferreira on Saturday following a controversial goal by Brazilian striker Ronny.
The Sporting players protested to no avail that Ronny had touched the ball into the net with his left hand.
