Everton's Anichebe called up by Nigeria

LAGOS, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been called up to play for Nigeria's under-20 team as the country attempt to beat England to the talented teenager's international future.

The Nigerian Football Association said Anichebe had been invited to play in an African youth championship qualifier against Rwanda on September 30.

Last month, Anichebe was named by England's under-19 team for a friendly against the Netherlands but did not play in the match at Walsall.

The 18-year-old Anichebe was born in Lagos but has lived in England since his first birthday.

He made his debut for Everton as a substitute in a FA Cup fourth round tie against Chelsea in January 2006 and scored his first goal for the club on the final day of the season, in the 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion.
