Henry expects tough challenge from Scotland

Thierry Henry insists France and Italy should be wary of Scotland in their Euro 2008 qualifying group.

The Arsenal striker helped the French to a 3-0 win over Georgia on Saturday as Scotland got their campaign off to a perfect start with a 6-0 demolition of the Faroe Islands at Celtic Park.

Scotland play Lithuania in Kaunas on Wednesday and still have it all to do to qualify from Group B that also includes Ukraine.

But Henry, looking forward to taking on the Italians in midweek, refused to dismiss the Scots' chances.

He said: 'I've been playing in English football and against Scottish players long enough to understand their mentality.

'Everyone may be speaking about France, Italy and even about Ukraine but I know Scotland won't be giving up this group just because of who they are facing.

'They've never done that in the past, so why start it now?

'They had Italy in the last campaign and everyone expected them to go to Scotland and win 2-0 or 3-0 but it didn't happen and Scotland drew.

'The expectations are always huge in Scotland and that's why it is dangerous for everyone to forget about them.'

Henry added: 'The other thing is they have two or three top-class young players I know well from the Premiership - like Darren Fletcher and James McFadden - and they will have the belief after their convincing win.

'There are always going to be surprise results - I think we saw that with Lithuania's draw in Italy - and you have to guard against that.

'Normally, in the end the bigger countries qualify but it's not always the case and you have to think very carefully before you write off teams.'
