Staunton left fuming after dismissal

STUTTGART, Germany, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Ireland manager Steve Staunton is not concerned about a possible touchline ban after being sent off during his team's 1-0 Euro 2008 Group D qualifying defeat by Germany on Saturday.

Staunton could be forced to watch Ireland's next qualifying game against Cyprus on Oct. 7 from the stands after he was dismissed by Spanish referee Luis Medina Cantalejo for dissent with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Depending on the outcome of the Spaniard's match report European football's governing body UEFA could impose an even stiffer penalty.

'I am not concerned about anything that might happen,' Staunton, who watched the rest of the game from the tunnel, told reporters.

'I kick every ball and head every ball during the game and this time I just kicked a bottle, it's as simple as that.'

Ireland's most-capped player conceded he was warned earlier by the Spanish official, but would not be drawn on whether the referee's actions were justified.

'I am not getting myself into any more trouble. I am not going to get in to this anymore,' Staunton said.

Germany won thanks to a 57th minute shot from Lukas Podolski that was unluckily deflected by Ireland captain Robbie Keane.

'This showed how cruel the game can be, just look at the goal, it was going well wide and took a cruel deflection,' Staunton said.

'The players are sick as parrots. There was a deadly silence in the dressing room afterwards and they all felt they should have got something from the game.'

Germany's visit San Marino in their next qualifier on Wednesday.
