Middlesbrough have opened talks with Charlton midfielder Jason Euell over a proposed move to the Riverside Stadium.
It is understood the 29-year-old Jamaica international was on Teesside this morning after Boro were given permission to speak to him.
Manager Gareth Southgate is looking for attacking options following Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's departure for the Valley during the summer.
Euell, who joined Charlton in a £4.75million move from Wimbledon in July 2001, has not figured in the 16 so far this season under new manager Iain Dowie.
Southgate is currently working to tie up a year-long loan move for Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate, while Chelsea's Robert Huth remains in his sights with local rivals Newcastle also chasing the Germany international.
