Govou extends contract with Lyon until 2008

LYON, France, Aug 29 (Reuters) - France striker Sidney Govou has agreed to extend his contract with Olympique Lyon until 2008, the French champions said on Tuesday.

'The details of the agreement will be announced when Sidney rejoins the club after France's Euro 2008 qualifying games against Georgia and Italy,' they added in a statement.

The 27-year-old started his professional career with Lyon in 1997. He has played 23 matches for France and was a member of their 2006 World Cup squad.

According to French media, he had been contacted by several foreign clubs including Aston Villa and Betis Seville.

Meanwhile, France and Olympique Lyon midfielder Benoit Pedretti is set to join AJ Auxerre, theLigue 1 club said on Tuesday.

'We have reached an agreement with Lyon. Pedretti will sign for three years', they added in a statement.

The 25-year-old started his professional career at Sochaux under the coaching of Jean Fernandez who moved from Olympique Marseille to Auxerre at the end of last season.

He has made 22 appearances for France but was omitted from their 2006 World Cup squad.
