Sheff Utd chiefs promise funds for Warnock

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has been promised cash if the right player becomes available.

Blades plc chairman Kevin McCabe has revealed Warnock will be able to add to the £6.5million he has already spent, with new signings expected before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

David Nugent, Olivier Bernard and Greg Halford are among the names linked with a move to Bramall Lane as Warnock looks to build a squad capable of surviving in the Premiership.

McCabe told the Sheffield Star: 'If a player becomes available who Neil thinks we need then yes, the money will be there. We believe we have built a comprehensive squad, but we are always searching for improvements.

'The staff have been looking and Neil has been keeping an eye on one or two. Plenty can happen between now and Thursday.

'A week is a long time in politics but it's an even longer time in football. Hopefully we'll have plenty more points on the board by the time I come to Eastlands.'
