Ferdinand cleared to join England squad
LONDON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was given the green light to join up with England's squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Andorra and Macedonia after a scan indicated his injured toe was not broken.
'Rio has bruising to his toe,' a United spokesman told the club's official Web site. 'But there is no conclusive evidence of a fracture.'
There were initial fears centre half Ferdinand had suffered a break after being hurt in United's 2-1 win at Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
England play Andorra at home on Saturday and Macedonia away four days later in their first Euro 2008 Group E qualifiers.
