The U.S. U-20 women's national team reached the semifinals of the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship with a resounding 4-1 win over defending champions Germany at St. Petersburg's Petrovsky stadium.
By their own admission, the U.S. had underperformed in reaching the knockout stages, despite topping their group.
Goals from Kelley O'Hara and Danesha Adams established a commanding 2-0 halftime lead for the US. Although Lydia Neumann fired home 19 minutes after the restart to give Germany hope, Adams struck again from close range just five minutes. Amy Rodriguez sealed the win with a goal in stoppage time.
Next up are the semifinals, where the U.S. will face China, on Aug. 31.
