Wanted Joaquin included in Spain squad

MADRID, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Real Betis winger Joaquin has been included in the squad for his side's opening league match of the season against Valencia despite the fact that he is on the verge of moving between the two clubs. Betis coach Javier Irureta named the Spain international in the squad for Saturday's match but tried out a different starting XI in training and the move is thought to be a way of pressuring Valencia into making further payment guarantees for the player.

Spanish media reported that Valencia were prepared to pay 25 millions euros for the 25-year-old winger, which would make him the most expensive signing in the club's history.

Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores said he was confident the player would eventually sign for his team, but that it would be impossible for him to make his debut against his old side on Saturday.

'I have no doubt that he will arrive in the end, but we are going to have to wait for everything to be confirmed,' he told a news conference on Friday.

'There is no way that he will be able to play for us tomorrow and so we are going to concentrate on the players we have at our disposal.'

If the transfer goes through it will make him the second-most expensive Primera Liga signing of the close season behind Mali midfielder Mahamadou Diarra who joined Real Madrid from Olympique Lyon for 26 million euros last week.

Joaquin was also included in the Spain squad on Friday for the September Euro 2008 qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Northern Ireland.

Valencia have already spent over 20 million euros to bring strikers Fernando Morientes and Francesco Tavano and left back Asier del Horno to the club during the close season.

They qualified for the group stage of the Champions League on Tuesday after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Salzburg.
