West Brom are to open talks with Kevin Phillips after having a bid accepted for the Aston Villa striker.
Coca-Cola Championship rivals Sunderland are also interested in luring the 33-year-old back to the Stadium of Light after they also agreed a fee with Villa.
Baggies boss Bryan Robson told the club's official website, 'It's up to me to convince Kevin Phillips that the best step for him in his career is to come to West Brom and be up for the challenge here.
'As far as I know I think the lad has moved into a new house in the midlands area so he wouldn't have to move house or move his family again. We've got a good chance of convincing him West Brom is the next step for him.'
