Premier Showdown - Aug 19/20

We're back! Dale Johnson and Tommy Smyth are primed and ready for action as our Premiership prediction game returns.

The Rest of the World team won back their crown from Dale back in May and will now be looking to perform Chelsea-esque heroics and make it back-to-back success.

But Tommy produced some fine form towards the end of last term to suggest this could really be his season.

So who is joining our so-called 'experts' for the first weekend of action? It's Thorstein Selmer - a man with perhaps more football expertise, being a physio at an Eredivisie club.

Thorstein is 28 and currently lives in the Enschede. But our man is not a native Dutchman, he was born in Norway before moving to the lowlands.

Thorstein works at FC Twente Enschede as a physio for the reserves and the youth team - which is a combination between FC Twente and Heracles Almelo, another Eresdivisie team.

His favourite team is Liverpool, closely followed by Twente Enschede.

Game on!

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline

  • One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.

The Rest of the World team won the crown back from Dale last season, the final standings being as follows:
    Rest of the World: 46.5
    Dale: 39
    Tommy: 28.5

Didier Drobga's late goal is not enough to rob Dale of victory - back luck for Tommy on the opening victory of the season.
