Galaxy acquire Quaranta from D.C. United

CARSON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Galaxy have acquired forward Santino Quaranta from D.C. United for partial rights to a future player and a conditional 2008 draft pick on Tuesday.

Quaranta, 21, was expected to join the team in time for Wednesday night's game against the Houston Dynamo in Houston.

"We expect him to contribute immediately as we continue the process of improving this team," said Alexi Lalas, president and general manager of the Galaxy.

Quaranta, who has been slowed by injuries in recent years, was the youngest selection in Major League Soccer when he was drafted at age 16 in 2001. He had five goals and one assist in 16 games as a rookie and was selected for the MLS All-Star Game.

He appeared in 18 games last year and was D.C. United's third-leading scorer with five goals and five assists.
