Gareth Southgate suffered more pre-season disappointment as his strong Middlesbrough side slipped to a third successive defeat on their continental tour.
Southgate handed Chris Riggott and Stuart Parnaby their first starts of the trip but a goal in each half sealed victory for the home side.
Feyenoord took the lead in the 18th minute when Royston Drenthe crossed from the right and Stein van Huysegems rose to head the opener past Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer.
Boro struggled to impose themselves on the match with precious few chances falling to strike pair Yakubu and Mark Viduka,
And it was the Dutchmen who should have extended their lead with Dirk Kuyt forcing a fine save out of Schwarzer then Benjamin van Ceulaer firing across the face of goal.
Feyenoord finally extended their lead early in the second half when failure to clear a corner enabled Kuyt to steal in and sweep the ball past Schwarzer.
George Boateng almost grabbed a late consolation against his former club but his long-range effort was well blocked by keeper Henk Timmer and Massimo Maccarone's follow-up was cleared off the line.
