Chelsea stay silent over Bates' claims

Chelsea insist they will not be making any comment on the move by Ken Bates to report his former club to football's authorities over the Premiership outfit's approaches to three Leeds players.

The Blues have always denied breaking any rules by signing teenagers Michael Woods and Tom Taiwo from the Yorkshire club.

Leeds chairman Bates, who sold Chelsea to Roman Abramovich three years ago, thinks differently.

He has lodged complaints with the Football Association, the Premier League and FIFA about losing Woods and Taiwo and also claims the Londoners made an unsuccessful bid to sign another player, Danny Rose.

Chelsea issued a statement at the weekend when Bates first threatened to take the issue to the authorities and the Premiership club have no plans to say anything different after the latest episode.

The statement said: 'We've always denied that an illegal approach was made for Woods, Taiwo and Rose.

'We made an approach to Leeds at the end of last year which they rejected.

'There was then a window of opportunity where the club could come in and make offers.

'Two of the players joined Chelsea. If there is an official complaint there is a process in place which can deal with this kind of matter.'
