Flamengo draw first blood in Copa Brasil final
RIO DE JANEIRO, July 20 (Reuters) - Flamengo drew first blood in the Copa Brasil final by beating arch-rivals Vasco da Gama 2-0 in the first leg at the Maracana stadium on Wednesday.
Two quick goals midway through the second half put Flamengo in an excellent position in the all-Rio de Janeiro final.
Substitute Obina opened the scoring in the 59th minute when he volleyed home from just inside the penalty area. Former Brazil striker Luizao headed the second three minutes later.
The Copa Brasil is a nationwide knockout competition. The winners qualify for next year's South American Libertadores Cup.
