Alan Thompson's agent has accused Celtic of 'embarrassing' the midfielder.
The 32-year-old Englishman, who has a year remaining on his contract, was unexpectedly sent home from the club's American tour with his representative Tony McGill claiming that the club must have deemed him 'surplus to requirements'.
The Hoops insist Thompson returned due to a thigh injury but McGill, who represents the player, has denied that and cleared the player of any wrongdoing.
'Unless he has dropped a suitcase on his toe he is not injured,' he said.
'Alan wasn't injured when he left America so I am not sure what has happened.
'I am going to have to wait and see what Celtic say and see whether they want to offload him.
'He has done absolutely nothing wrong which is why I am so surprised and disappointed with what has happened.
'This is not common courtesy. If Celtic deem him surplus to requirements then why take him there in the first place?
'But to send him home a couple of days before they are all due to return is just embarrassing for the lad.
'This is beyond belief. I expect Celtic to explain the reason for this before we can do anything else.'
