Tonge signs contract extension at Bramall Lane

Michael Tonge has today pledged his future to Sheffield United after agreeing a new deal with the Premiership newcomers.

The 23-year-old midfielder has signed an extension which will take him through to the end of the 2007-08 season, to the delight of manager Neil Warnock.

Warnock said: 'He's another committed to the cause. Retaining players of his calibre shows that we mean business.'

The 23-year-old Tonge came through the ranks at the club and despite a shaky start to last season he improved in the later stages.

Warnock told the club's website: 'I believe he will blossom in the Premiership.

'I'm absolutely delighted Michael has agreed to do this - I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the Premiership.

'It sends out the right message inside and outside the camp. Michael is a smashing lad and he showed what a good attitude he's got last season.'
