Yorke 'to play' A-League pre-season cup
New Sydney FC coach Terry Butcher expects Dwight Yorke to play a part in the A-League champion's pre-season cup campaign when he returns to Australia later this month.
Former England international Butcher took over the reins at Sydney after returning from his World Cup commentary duties with the BBC in Germany.
Sydney play its first game of the pre-season cup this Saturday against Queensland Roar on the Gold Coast, with the A-League season to kickoff on the last weekend of August.
Butcher was expecting Yorke to be back at Sydney training within the next week after the former Manchester United star captained Trinidad and Tobago to its first World Cup last month.
"He's looking forward to getting back, it will be the end of this week, or the beginning of next," Butcher said.
"He'll play in some (games in the pre-season cup) but not all of them. He needs to get his sharpness back playing in a role where he can add some goals for us, or to create some goals as well.
"We'll gauge his level of fitness when he returns, but what you don't want to do, especially at his age, is to burn him out too soon.
"But he's got great experience, he knows his body very well, he's a great professional, he's a great lad, so we're looking forward to seeing him."
While Yorke played a midfield role for Trinidad at the World Cup and during the second half of the last A-League season, Butcher is keen to play him up forward this season.
