Taylor and O'Neil extend Pompey contracts

Matthew Taylor and Gary O'Neil have signed new long-term deals with Portsmouth.

Full-back Taylor has agreed a new four-year deal to stay at Fratton Park with midfielder O'Neil committing himself for five years.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp told the club's official website: 'I'm delighted Gary and Matty have pledged their long-term futures to Pompey.

'They have both earned the rewards and are poised to continue to work hard and be up there among England's finest.'

Redknapp brought Taylor to Fratton Park from Luton in 2002 and the 24-year-old has already made more than 130 appearances for the south coast club.

O'Neil came through the ranks at Pompey and is currently their longest-serving player despite being only 23 after becoming their youngest player when he made his debut in January 2000 aged 16.

Redknapp continued: 'We intend to be a match for the best clubs in this league and for this we need to keep hold of our best young and talented players.

'Today's news makes our intentions and vision perfectly clear as to our commitment to building a top squad of players which will be part of Pompey's exciting future.'
